Hurricane Florence Response

Do you want to get involved in hands-on clean up work?
Friday, October 26th in New Bern
The winds have died down. The skies are blue and the air carries a faint feel of autumn. We have cleared our yards of small branches here in Greenville. Here at St. James, we were able to worship in our buildings just a couple of days after Hurricane Florence. Life seems to have returned to normal.
But in our Sound District of the United Methodist Church, 22 churches and four parsonages are damaged. The Trenton United Methodist Church lost hymnals, bibles, and much more. “Pretty much everything is ruined,” said Leo Fair, pastor of the church. “The pews and the seating pads and everything have come out of the sanctuary, carpet out of the sanctuary…” The congregants will not be able to return to Trenton United Methodist Church for eight weeks. Meanwhile, they worship in Trenton Missionary Baptist Church until the damage caused by 26 inches of river water is cleaned up.
We have done our part with our prayers, our work, our money, and our donations of food and other basic necessities. But the needs are still great. The process of recovery will be long. Read more…
