Congregations For Children (C4C)

Make a difference in the lives of the students of Wahl-Coates and their families!
The school year is about to begin and we want them to know that we support them, pray for them, and celebrate with them the hopes and dreams of a new school year.
At Wahl-Coates Open House on Thursday, August 24th from 3:00 – 6:00 pm, we will be offering free food, games and a lawn party atmosphere for the students and families that will be arriving. What a great way to celebrate the new school year!

Have you visited the Church Library?

The Church Library there for you to browse anytime St. James is open. Books about the history of religion, world religions, history of Christianity, Bible study, Christian living, marriage and family, grief, Christian classics, spiritual growth, prayer, and devotions. There are books of maps, handbooks of the Bible, daily life in Bible times, and other reference sources. Biographies and Christian novels may also be checked out of the library. The library is located between the Fellowship Hall and the Narthex.

Come spend a few minutes there and see what is there for you.

New Sunday Living Water Studies

Sunday mornings offer a wonderful opportunity for folks of all ages to spend time in Bible study and discussion through our Living Water classes. Our adult classes offer a wide range of topics from books of the Bible to how to live out your Christian faith each day. Three of our groups are starting new studies.
Life Enrichment, which meets in Room 310, will be studying God Unbound, a book about Paul’s letter to the Galatians, written by Elaine Heath from Duke University. She shows us how Paul’s teachings can help us today to boldly follow the Holy Spirit’s leadership beyond buildings and programs to join what Jesus is doing in the world.
The Seekers meet in Room 311 and are starting Max Lucado’s book, Outlive Your Live. God has a purpose for us all and that purpose is to fulfill God’s mission of active love in the world. Our lives are meant to reflect the redeeming power of God’s love as we feed the hungry, clothe the naked, and visit the lonely. If you are looking for a way to bring more meaning to your life, you won’t want to miss this study.
The Women On the Way (WOW) group, which meets in Room 306, invites the ladies of St. James to join them for their fall book study, A Perfect Mess by Lisa Harper. Through this liberating look at how God adores and transforms imperfect people, Bible teacher Lisa Harper weaves poignant stories of her own personal foibles with a fresh take on selected Psalms to reveal a loving Father who remains your greatest champion even when you don’t feel anywhere close to holy.
The Story Living Water Sunday school class will begin a new study on August 13. We will be reading and discussing Adam Hamilton’s book, Half-Truths. Together we will explore popular sayings that miss the Christian point. These phrases may sound Christian and you may think they are even in the Bible, but they actually distort the truth about Jesus’ teachings and other aspects of Scripture. Join us in Room 21 at 9:55 a.m. on Sunday mornings to discover the difference between our half-truths and Jesus’ Truth.
And introducing a new Sunday Morning Living Water Class for Young Adults
Beginning Sunday, September 10, we will be starting a new Living Water class for adults ages 18-27 (or thereabouts!). This class will meet in Room 307, 9:50-10:45 a.m., and will be led by Taylor and Dustin Dougherty. We plan to begin with a social gathering on 9/10 where we can discuss ideas and hopes for the future of the group.
One possible study we are considering starting with is Financial Peace, by Dave Ramsey. This study offers budgeting advice that will help you better organize your finances today so that your future will be even brighter.
For more information, contact Taylor Dougherty at Taylor@stjconnect.org.
