Advent Studies

The season of Advent is a time of preparation. We need to prepare our hearts and minds for the coming of Christ. During Advent we remember the first coming of Christ as an infant—God putting on human flesh and becoming fully dependent upon the care and nurture of human parents. We also look forward to Christ’s second coming when the kingdom of God will be fulfilled on earth as it is in heaven. Take time this Advent to let God speak to you. St. James is offering three different Advent studies. Sign up online or by calling the church office ( or 252-752-6154). Childcare will be available if requested at least one week ahead. Read more…

Salvation Army Bell Ringing

St. James UMC has established a Christmas tradition to serve the Greenville community by ringing the Salvation Army bells on one day during the Christmas holidays. This tradition was initiated by the late Les Garner and coordinated for over 20 years by Mike Board. In 2016, we collected $8,462. Last year, the total was $10,678. These funds allow the Salvation Army to meet the needs of many people who are less fortunate in our community and saves them from having to pay employees to ring the bells on that day.
With your help, we will be ringing the bells at 20 kettle sites throughout Greenville on Friday, December 22. We plan to have volunteers ring for 2-hour periods at each site beginning at 10:00 am and ending at 8:00 pm.
This serving ministry is one that many have enjoyed! It not only provides a valuable service to our community, but adds a special reminder of us all to the true meaning of Christmas – the birth of Jesus.
We are now signing up volunteers to serve!  If you can help, please contact Tom Pauling at 252-752-5129 or 252-375-2267 or
