Old Board Games Needed for Wahl-Coates School
As we look to purchase gifts and new toys for our children, consider donating your old games for use by Wahl-Coates students. The Music Teacher, Dawn Wilson, is in need of used games that she will modify for musical activities. Games needed are: Jenga (or similar), Candyland, Headbanz, Dominoes, Yahtzee, Twister, and Sorry. These games do not need to be in new condition or have all the pieces. She is also in need of timers (sand or others), spinners, and blank dice. If you have any of these items to donate, please place them in the bins near the Children’s Check-in area.
Remember to turn in your box tops for credit to Wahl Coates. Also, you can list Wahl Coates as a preferred school with your VIC Card at Harris Teeter.
Lastly, Wahl Coates is collecting plastic bottle tops. Bring yours to the church for collection near the Children’s Check-In area.

Be a Role Model!
Would you be willing to share your story and /or what good character traits have been important in your career with some of the students? The Wahl-Coates Captain’s Crew Luncheons for Positive Behavior meets one Friday a month and would like to invite a guest speaker each month.
Speakers are asked to incorporate some advice/support to parents to help parents raise productive citizens, ie. ways child can volunteer in the community, ways to raise an independent child, ways to be a responsible person.
The luncheons will be held at St. James from 12-1 pm on December 1, January 26, February 23, and April 27.  Speakers are asked to arrive a few minutes early (around 11:45), present a 10-minutes talk and then help hand out certificates.  Speakers are done by 12:15 pm, but are welcome to stay for lunch after that.

At St. James, we have a unique opportunity to reach out to our neighbors by participating in the classrooms at Wahl-Coates Elementary School.  Are you ready to help?
Congregations For Children (C4C) is a statewide initiative of The United Methodist Church focused on reflecting the love of Christ to our “neighbors” by helping children in public schools who are living in poverty.  St James UMC has partnered with our neighbor, Wahl-Coates Elementary School.  We need your help.  There are several different areas that the congregation of St James can be a part of this very important mission.
  • Adopt a Class/Classroom Volunteer – can be Regular or Exceptional Children’s classroom.  The classroom teacher can decide if the volunteer is needed to read with a student, help with a project in the classroom, help with a group, or do whatever is needed most that specific day.  This would be best on a regular basis.
  • Office/Media – For those who don’t want to volunteer in a classroom
  • Special Projects – For those who don’t want to volunteer on a regular basis but want to participate for special projects such as Teacher Appreciation week; EOG’s; End of Year or Beginning of Year Celebrations.
  • Beautification/Work Projects/Handy Work
  • Basic Needs Donations – School Supplies/Uniforms
  • Teacher Support
  • Volunteer with Growing in Grace – Already in place at St James for Wahl Coates and will be continued under the umbrella of C4C.

If you are interested in assisting in this very worthy mission area, please contact Lora Joyner at for more information.
