Congregations For Children (C4C) is a state-wide initiative of The United Methodist Church focused on reflecting the love of Christ to our “neighbors” by helping children in public schools who are living in poverty. C4C’s areas of focus include:

1. Helping to improve K-3 Literacy rates (volunteer tutors, collecting/donating books, summer reading programs etc.)
2. Helping to meet the Basic Needs of students (food, clothing, supplies etc.)
3. Helping to increase Parental Involvement (and interactions with positive adult role models – i.e. lunch buddies, morning greeters, Watch DOGS etc.)

C4C Update

YOU can make a difference in the life of a student or teacher by giving a few hours each week. Please consider joining the team of amazing volunteers with Congregations for Children (C4C). There are opportunities to share your time and talent at Wahl Coates School in a variety of ways.

  • The Captain’s Crew luncheon, held monthly in the Fellowship Hall of St. James, honors one student per classroom who has been nominated by their fellow students to attend a pizza luncheon and hear a motivational speaker. Volunteers help set up, serve pizza, and interact with the children. Dates are this Friday, October 19, as well as December 14, January 25, February 22, March 22, April 12, and May 24. The event is from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Bicycle Safety Training needs two to three volunteers per training session. The sessions will be from 10:45 to 11:30 a.m. Currently, we need volunteers for the following dates:   Tuesday, Nov 13   Thursday, Nov 15   Friday, Nov 16 Tuesday, Nov 20. Volunteers help the coach set up a bicycle course and teach bicycle safety.
  • Book Fair Volunteers On Tuesday, November 13, we need volunteers to help out with the Preview Day. They will help students locate prices of items as well as help our younger students create a short wish list for them to take home to their families. On Wednesday through Friday, November 14-16, we will need volunteers to help monitor the fair as well as help customers find books and prices of items. They may also need to help with bagging items at checkout. We are asking for 3 volunteers per time slot, but will be happy with whatever help I can get. Time slots are 8:00-10:00am, 10:00-12:00pm, 12:00pm-2:00pm.
