“Follow Jesus … Love Others … Change the World”

Start the New Year off right!

TGIW is Back this Wednesday!

TGIW (Thank God It’s Wednesday!) meals and classes will begin this Wednesday, January 11th.  What better way to start the new year than to meet with friends, enjoy good food together, and study God’s Word!

A varied selection of Adult Classes are offered.  Most classes will begin on Wednesday, so don’t wait to register for your class!

The evening schedule will remain the same …
5:00 – Communion Service in Chapel
5:15 – TGIW Meal served in Fellowship Hall
(reservations are requested each week – see below)
   6:00 – Children’s Activities/Program begins
   6:15 – Adult Classes begin

Reservations are required for the dinner so we can know how much food to prepare. The reservations must be in to the church office by the prior Monday at 5:00 pm.  If your plans change and you are not able to use your reservations, please call the church office to let them know. Or consider making a donation to the ministry team that prepared a meal for you.

We understand that the weather people are predicting a possibility of snow this weekend!  The snow can be beautiful and exciting, but it can also be dangerous.  Please use your best judgment when deciding to attend church events this weekend.

At this time, no events or services have been canceled.  Please monitor the church website (www.stjconnect.org) or facebook page for updates as the weather changes.

A Note from Ryan

This past weekend, it was announced that Ryan, Gina, and Braden would be moving to the Nashville, TN area.  Read more about his call and the adventure that God has opened for the Dunns.

St. James is starting a ministry of fun, fellowship, and exploration. You are invited to join us for our first day trip to Washington, NC to visit the North Carolina Estuarium. What is an Estuarium you ask? It’s a place where you can explore the science, art, nature and history of the place where the rivers meet the sea—in this case at the Pamlico/Tar River estuary. After spending some time there, we’ll go downtown to eat lunch and walk the waterfront. We will leave St. James at 9:30 am and return by 2:30 pm. January 25th is a teacher workday so kids, teens, young adults, adults, and seniors are invited. You must register because space is limited.

Scott and Anne Heritage are coordinating this new program. It will be a great opportunity to meet church members of all ages in a relaxed, fun way. Call the church office at 752-6154 to sign up for the first St. James Adventure!

Imagine a Fresh Expression

of Church

Our communities are in need of a fresh expression of church. We need to learn how to be the church wherever we are in ways that will invite people into comfortable relationships with us and from there into a loving relationship with God. Plan to join us as we learn together!

What: Life as Mission
Who:  Anyone interested in being the church in
the world through your everyday lives
When: Friday, Jan. 27, 6:00-9:00 p.m. &
Saturday, Jan. 28, 9:00 a.m.-Noon

Luke Edwards, Pastor of Boone UMC and a representative of Fresh Expressions US will lead our time together.

Dinner will be served Friday evening and a continental breakfast on Saturday morning.  You will want to be a part of this exciting event at St. James.  Sign-up by clicking the button below.

On behalf of the Community Crossroads Center board and staff, I want to extend a huge thank you for all of the support St James provided to make this year’s Honor Card campaign such a success. The support, coordination, facilities, and help selling cards could not have been better. The kick-off event sets the tone for the campaign and this year’s event was the best one yet, which was the spring board for the campaign being the most successful one yet. The dollars raised will be used to provide food, shelter, love, support, direction and so much more to some of the neediest members of our community. This year’s event would not have been such a success without the support of St James, so THANK YOU!

CCC has exciting, innovative plans for the future that we hope will benefit not only the residents of the shelter, but the greater west Greenville community. CCC will be forever grateful for the ideas turned reality that began in the hearts and minds of several folks at St James and all of the support and prayers over the years.

Warmest regards,
Lynwood Evans

Confirmation 2017

It’s our belief that Jesus mentored his disciples in a way of life… And it’s our wish to see our young people nurtured and discipled through a strong, ongoing mentoring relationship.

Registration packets are now available – click here to download your copy.

Registrations are due by Friday, January 27, 2017.  If you have questions or concerns about the Confirmation preparation process, please contact Ryan Dunn, Youth Director, at 252-752-6154 or ryan@stjconnect.org.

Looking for a Sunday Morning Class?

The Men’s Bible Class was established at St. James in 1954—just two years after our church doors opened. Since then, this group has offered men of all ages an opportunity to gather for singing, fellowship, and Bible study every Sunday morning from 9:45 to 10:45.  Recently, we’ve lost a lot of our older members who are now enjoying conversation with our Lord up in heaven. We would love to see this group continue its legacy of growing people in discipleship while they are still in this life!  Won’t you join us?  While we’ve traditionally been a men’s group, we are now welcoming both men and women.  We meet in the Conference Room (with nice, comfy chairs!).  What better way to start the New Year than to take the leap into a deeper life of discipleship?
