“Follow Jesus … Love Others … Change the World”

Snow-maggedon II

No, it is not the end of the world, but the weather has played havoc with our schedules.  The snow and ice caused us to postpone the beginning of our Wednesday night activities for another week.  SO, TGIW fellowship meal and classes will begin on Wednesday, January 24th (weather permitting).

You still have time to register for a class!  Listings of available classes are at the Information Booths or by clicking here.  Register by clicking the button below or through the church office (252-752-6154)!

Make your reservation for the TGIW Fellowship Dinners!  We ask that you make reservations by 5:00 pm on the Monday before the Wednesday night.  To make a reservation click on the button below, call the church office, or mark the pew pad or ConneXion Cards in the TGIW reservation area with the appropriate information.  You can sign up for the entire semester if you pre-pay for all 9 weeks.

The meals are served from 5:15 – 6:00 pm each Wednesday by various ministry groups in the church.  It’s a great way to support our missions and ministries and get to know your fellow St. James members.  Dinners are $5/person or $15/family.  Watch the weekly bulletins and newsletters for the upcoming menus.

This week we welcome our new Director of Congregational

Engagement, Desda White.  She is so excited about meeting folks that she has put a sign up sheet on her door for you to make a date with her.  And any time you’re around the church in the days ahead, be sure to stop by her office to say ‘hello’.  Right now she may not be able to say much back because she has laryngitis, but she will greet you with a smile to be sure!

She is located in Alan Gill’s former office – the one with the stained glass window, right off the Fellowship Hall.  Alan is now in the front office.  Thank you for your patience as we all get settled into our new locations and roles.

Women of St. James, you are invited to be a part of IF:Gathering 2018 on Saturday, March 17th!  Register today and Mark your calendars for this amazing women’s event.

What IF we followed God with perseverance instead of insecurity?
At IF:Gathering 2018, we will look at one of Paul’s letters to Timothy as he reminded him of the power and responsibility of sharing the gospel. We want to give God away in the very places He’s put us, so we’re going to gather for the purpose of remembering why following God and making disciples matters. We all get tired, we all wonder if what we’re doing matters, so IF:Gathering 2018 will be the reminder–it will be the celebration. The work we’re doing to share the gospel on the earth is worth it and God DOES move through the little things that nobody sees.  Join us right here at St. James for the local IF:Gathering.

This event includes a light breakfast, lunch and snacks.  Childcare will be available if requested by March 2, 2018 by calling the church at (252) 752-6154.

There is more information about this event at the Information booths.  For more information, please contact Joyce Day (252-752-6154 or Joyce@stjconnect.org) or Nicole Franklin (252-752-6154 or Franklin@stjconnect.org.

Thank you so much for your continued support in our fight against cancer!

My daughter Brenda has been home from the hospital now for almost 2 weeks.  It is over 4 months since her cancer diagnosis and following multiple surgeries, she is testing cancer free. She came home “connected with various drains & tubes” and had her last drain removed  on Tuesday.  Hopefully she will have her PICC line removed next week. She was able to host a church meeting at her home this week.  She is not allowed to drive yet, but is eager to return to her pulpit and ministerial duties. She is still having therapy, but is progressing.  She and our family thank members of St. James for all your prayers. God is good.

In Christian love and gratitude,

Doris Reed

To all of the folks who have so generously given to the “Keep God’s Children Warm”outreach on Thurs. mornings, we would like to extend a huge “thank you.” Your response has been outstanding. There is a lady who comes weekly on behalf of the homeless and she has been so grateful for all the warm winter coats, sweaters, hooded sweatshirts, jeans, etc. We will continue this program through the month of March.

Again, all God’s Children thank you!!

Judy Neufer, Sharon Loy, Mary McCallum, Ellen Hucknall, Mary Jo Murrill, Emily Blankenship

Approximately 225 members of St. James volunteered to ring the Salvation Army bells at 20 locations on December 22nd. The ringers were enthusiastic in sharing the Christmas spirit even during a light afternoon rain and were able to raise $12,303 that will assist the Salvation Army in providing aid to our community throughout the year.

The Salvation Army representative said, “Thanks to St. James, we were able to meet our goal this year! As always, St. James stepped up to the challenge and did a beautiful job. We have a great partnership with St. James.”

Thank you St. James for once again demonstrating your willingness to be servants for this ministry in our community.

Volunteer with Vidant Home Health and Hospice

Vidant Home Health and Hospice is currently recruiting volunteers in the Pitt County area. We have an increasing need for compassionate individuals whom are willing to provide support to patients and their families at the end of life. As a volunteer, you will be able to give back to the community, in an emotionally rewarding way.

Opportunities include:

  • Direct Support: Offering Companionship: Friendly visits to provide some special attention, a listening ear, and a comforting presence.
  • Respite Care: Respite care is an opportunity for the caregiver to have a break and still be assured their loved one is safe.
  • Indirect Support: Providing support in our offices or at the Service League of Greenville Inpatient Hospice.

Training is provided. To schedule a presentation about our volunteer program or to sign up as a Vidant Home Health and Hospice Volunteer please contact Angelina Brittle at 252-847-1236 or email Angelina.brittle@vidanthealth.com.
