Reception for the Dunn Family

There will be a reception for Ryan, Gina, and Braden Dunn this Sunday, February 19th, 2:00 – 4:00 pm. We will celebrate their 8 years of ministry with us at St. James UMC and wish Ryan, Gina, and Braden well as they begin their new life in Nashville, TN.

Did you know that St. James had a facebook group?

Ask them their names and they reply in unison: We’re the Manley boys! And, indeed, they are.  This preschool trio lives in Northampton County with Jeff and Jackie Manley, who became foster parents with Methodist Home for Children in 2010.

The Manleys had talked about adopting a boy, maybe a newborn, after they finished raising their two daughters, now 31 and 25. They fostered for five years, waiting for the right child, then MHC sent them profiles on brothers James and Jeffrey.

One look at the photos and it was all over. They had found their boys.

The Methodist Home for Children believes that all children deserve a safe, loving home where they can thrive and live to their full God-given potential. But many thousands in North Carolina lack this important foundation for a good life.

On Methodist Home for Children Sunday, February 19th,

you can make a difference!

This is the one day a year when congregations in the NC Conference of the United Methodist Church take up a special collection for the children and families served by MHC. Last year MHC helped nearly 1,400 children and families thanks in large part to the generosity United Methodist congregations. We need your help to continue changing lives and inspiring hope.  On Sunday, February 19th, there will be special offering envelopes available for your gifts.

This is an important ministry that St. James UMC believes in!

Please join us as we support their cause.

St. James’ Preschool is gearing up for their BIGGEST fundraiser of the year!

The Preschool’s Annual Winter Carnival is Friday, February 24th from 5:00 – 8:00 pm in the CLMC (Christian Life Ministries Center).

On the menu we will have pizza, chips, drinks, and yummy treats. We will have carnival games, kid-friendly entertainment, and a silent auction

Tickets are $5.00 and can be purchased through the preschool office or at the door. Come out and support our wonderful Preschool!

Monthly Evening Prayer Services

Once a quarter, the service will be a healing service, where you can request prayers for yourself or others and anointing with oil. The March service will be a healing service.

College Scholarships for High School Seniors

There are a number of foundations that offer annual scholarships to graduating High School Seniors from the St. James community. To receive one of these scholarships, a student must apply and be accepted by the scholarship committee. The applications for College Scholarships are now available in the Church Office or download one here.  The completed application, along with a current signed and sealed school transcript, must be returned to the Church Office by Friday, March 24th, 2017 at 5:00 pm EDT.

Collecting Bibles for the Homeless Shelter

The Bible Sunday School Class has been collecting Bibles for Community Crossroads, the homeless shelter. People using the shelter cannot believe that the Bibles are there for them to take as their own. We have so far taken about forty Bibles and now there are only three left for the residents there. If you have any Bibles to donate, please take them to Room 22 or give them to Aaron Sampson. We will be taking Bibles continuously as they are donated.

Quarterly Contribution Statements moving to Email

Our goal is to be good stewards of God’s resources. One way we can do this is by emailing your quarterly contribution statements. You can help us by making sure we have an accurate email address for you. As of April, 2017 all quarterly contribution statements will be emailed. If you prefer to receive a paper statement mailed to you in lieu of an emailed statement, please contact Marianne Leventry at 252-752- 6154 or Marianne@stjconnect.org. For tax purposes, you will always get a paper copy of your year-end statement.

Vidant Home Health and Hospice Volunteer Training

Each day our Vidant volunteers help deliver the high-quality, compassionate care our patients and their families deserve. Many volunteer because they want to give back to their community, believe in the mission of Hospice, or have personally experienced the support of hospice care with a friend or relative at the end of life. Would you be interested in becoming a volunteer?

As a volunteer, you will be able to give back to your community in a gratifying, intellectually stimulating, and emotionally meaningful way. Volunteers are able to determine how much time they give each week, typically up to 2-4 hours or more depending on your personal preference and availability.  The 16 hour training is especially designed to prepare Volunteers to perform this vital service. All training is provided free of charge by Vidant Home Health and Hospice Volunteer Coordinator.

Our next Volunteer Training is Monday, February 20, 9am-4pm, and Tuesday, February 21, 9am-3pm. It will be at Vidant Home Health and Hospice, Service League of Greenville Inpatient Hospice, 920 Wellness Dr., Greenville, NC 27834.  Click here to download a flyer.

For more information or to register please contact Angelina Brittle by phone at 252-847-1236, or by email at Angelina.brittle@vidanthealth.com
