“Follow Jesus … Love Others … Change the World”

Did you know that St. James had a facebook group?

Jesus used questions to help others grow in faith, see truth more clearly, and move toward wholeness. Let Jesus ask these same questions of you throughout this season of Lent. This study group will meet on Wednesdays, 1:00-2:00 p.m., beginning March 1 (Ash Wednesday).

We will be exploring these questions from Jesus:

  • March 1 What are you looking for? (John 1:35-32)
  • March 8 Who do you say I am? (Matthew 16:13-23; Mark 8:27-33; Luke 9:18-22)
  • March 15 Do you want to get well? (John 5:2-9)
  • March 22 Why are you crying? (John 20:11-18)
  • March 29 Do you understand what I have done to you? (John 13:1-20)
  • April 5 Do you love me? (John 21:15-19)

St. James’ Preschool is gearing up for their BIGGEST fundraiser of the year!

The Preschool’s Annual Winter Carnival is Friday, February 24th from 5:00 – 8:00 pm in the CLMC (Christian Life Ministries Center).

On the menu we will have pizza, chips, drinks, and yummy treats. We will have carnival games, kid-friendly entertainment, and a silent auction

Tickets are $5.00 and can be purchased through the preschool office or at the door. Come out and support our wonderful Preschool!

Lenten Devotional Guides

On March 1st we begin our journey through the season of Lent that will set us on a path toward Easter.  To help us travel this spiritual path, your fellow St. James members have written devotionals to inspire us along the way.  The 2017 Lenten Devotional Guides are now available and can be picked up at the church beginning this Sunday, February 26th.  Or you can sign up online and receive the daily devotionals in your email inbox each morning.

Monthly Evening Prayer Services

Are you longing for a quiet place and time to be in God’s presence with other like-minded souls? Starting Sunday, March 5, on the first Sunday of every month, we will be offering a contemplative evening prayer service in the chapel, 6:30-7:30 p.m.

This service, and then once a quarter, will be a healing service, where you can request prayers for yourself or others and anointing with oil.

If you have any questions, please contact Joyce Day at joyce@stjconnect.org or 752-6154.

Are you looking for Truth?

A solid foundation in our ever-changing world?

The Story Living Water Class is beginning a new study on the Letters of John beginning Sunday, February 12. We meet every Sunday morning, 9:55-10:30 a.m. in Room 21. Everyone is welcome. We enjoy a multi-generation perspective from college students on up. Join us any time! For more information, contact Joyce Day at joyce@stjconnect.org or 752-6154.

College Scholarships for High School Seniors

There are a number of foundations that offer annual scholarships to graduating High School Seniors from the St. James community. To receive one of these scholarships, a student must apply and be accepted by the scholarship committee. The applications for College Scholarships are now available in the Church Office or download one here.  The completed application, along with a current signed and sealed school transcript, must be returned to the Church Office by Friday, March 24th, 2017 at 5:00 pm EDT.

Lenten Mission Focus –

Community Crossroads Center

St. James has a long history with the Greenville Community Shelter. We were one of the early churches that worked together to start a local shelter for the homeless in Pitt County. We provided volunteers to staff the opening week of the shelter. Through the years, St. James has provided untold volunteer hours, countless meals, large amounts of supplies and resources, and much needed money to keep the Shelter operating.

With that tradition and history in mind, the St. James Mission Committee has selected the Community Crossroads Center (formerly the Greenville Homeless Shelter) as our Lenten Missional Focus. The need is great for the center as last year alone they provided shelter and food for 560 different people. So let us do as Jesus asks and help feed the hungry and invite in the stranger.

You may bring donations at any time during the season of Lent with an indication that they are for the Lenten Focus or CCC (Community Crossroads Shelter).  Thank you St James!

Welcome to Mitch Foskey

We welcome Mitch Foskey as our new assistant custodian.  Mitch will be here in the evenings to maintain the Young Disciples wing of our facility.  Welcome, Mitch!

Thank You!

A big THANK YOU to all of the people who made the reception for Dunn family a great success!  We were able to send Ryan, Gina, and Braden off in great style.  While we will miss them, they know that are thoughts and prayers go with them because of the outpouring of love at the reception.  Thank You!

Collecting Bibles for the Homeless Shelter

The Bible Sunday School Class has been collecting Bibles for Community Crossroads, the homeless shelter. People using the shelter cannot believe that the Bibles are there for them to take as their own. We have so far taken about forty Bibles and now there are only three left for the residents there. If you have any Bibles to donate, please take them to Room 22 or give them to Aaron Sampson. We will be taking Bibles continuously as they are donated.

Quarterly Contribution Statements moving to Email

Our goal is to be good stewards of God’s resources. One way we can do this is by emailing your quarterly contribution statements. You can help us by making sure we have an accurate email address for you. As of April, 2017 all quarterly contribution statements will be emailed. If you prefer to receive a paper statement mailed to you in lieu of an emailed statement, please contact Marianne Leventry at 252-752- 6154 or Marianne@stjconnect.org. For tax purposes, you will always get a paper copy of your year-end statement.
