Spring Fling is Just Around the Corner!

The trailer has arrived and is awaiting your treasures.  It is open from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm every day.

Please remember to pack the items into the far back of the trailer.  If you need a receipt or need help in the trailer, please come into the church office.

Stay Tuned for much more information about how YOU can get involved with Greenville’s largest Yard Sale and all the festivities!

Spring Fling is Saturday, April 22nd!

Did you know that St. James had a facebook group?

The St. James ESAG (Environmental Stewardship Action Group) will be hosting a free shredding event on Saturday, March 18th, from 12pm-2pm or until they reach capacity. It will be held at St. James. This is an opportunity to safely and securely discard all of your paper waste from old records.

There will be a five box or bag maximum per person and we ask that this event be limited to residential customers (no businesses please). Staples, paper clips and thin folders can be shredded along with paper documents, but no three-ring binders please.

Be a good steward and recycle your old records at our free shredding event.

Are You Ready to Relay?

Cancer is a disease that has touched every one of our lives, either personally or a loved one’s. Isn’t it time that we do something about it? Isn’t it time to fight back?

Yes! It is time to Relay!!

Come out and join our team at the 2017 Relay for Life on April 28th and 29th at Boyd Lee Park! Together we can all make a difference.

There are many ways to support the St. James Relay for Life Team:

* Jewelry/Charms – St. James is selling their annual charms. Contact the church office or Debbie Creech (756-8006) for more information.

* Luminaria and Torch – Flames of Hope. Honor survivors or loved ones lost to cancer with luminaria and Flames of Hope. Standard white luminaria are $10; Gold star Luminaria are $25; and Torch of Hope is $100. Order yours today at the church office.

* Relay Day will be Sunday, April 9th. Calling all Bakers, Crafters, and Candy Makers!  Donate a baked good for the Bake Sale or an item for the Silent Auction. Then join us on April 9th!

Thanks for your continued support of St. James Relay for Life Team!

Lenten Mission Focus – Community Crossroads Center

St. James has a long history with the Greenville Community Shelter. We were one of the early churches that worked together to start a local shelter for the homeless in Pitt County.  With that tradition and history in mind, the St. James Mission Committee has selected the Community Crossroads Center (formerly the Greenville Homeless Shelter) as our Lenten Missional Focus. The need is great for the center as last year alone they provided shelter and food for 560 different people. So let us do as Jesus asks and help feed the hungry and invite in the stranger.

You may bring donations at any time during the season of Lent with an indication that they are for the Lenten Focus or CCC (Community Crossroads Shelter).  Thank you St James!

College Scholarships for High School Seniors

There are a number of foundations that offer annual scholarships to graduating High School Seniors from the St. James community. To receive one of these scholarships, a student must apply and be accepted by the scholarship committee. The applications for College Scholarships are now available in the Church Office or download one here.  The completed application, along with a current signed and sealed school transcript, must be returned to the Church Office by Friday, March 24th, 2017 at 5:00 pm EDT.

Lenten Devotional Guides

On March 1st we began our journey through the season of Lent that will set us on a path toward Easter.  To help us travel this spiritual path, your fellow St. James members have written devotionals to inspire us along the way.  The 2017 Lenten Devotional Guides are now available and can be picked up at the church.  Or you can sign up online and receive the daily devotionals in your email inbox each morning.

Thank you from the Dunns

Ryan, Gina and Braden Dunn and Kathy Burnette are so appreciative of the send off and support received from St James as they start a new venture in life. The generosity of the congregation will be felt for quite some time to come. It makes us miss our church family at St James, but also fills us with a sense of gratitude and peace for the future. Thank you for all your well wishes, gifts, and continued prayers. Ryan began work at UMCom in Nashville and you can continue to interact with him through RethinkChurch.org and the Rethink Church Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter pages!

St. James Designated a Rainbow Covenant Church

St. James was designated a Rainbow Covenant Church for 2016.  This  title is given to churches that have given donations to at least one project in each lane of the United Methodist Advance Special Gifts.  Our giving through the Advance helps to sustain projects that feed, clothe, rescue, house, teach and share Jesus.  Thank You St. James for your continued generous spirit!

Welcome to Dana Carpenetti as our new Church Secretary

The Staff-Parish Relations Committee has announced that Dana Carpenetti will be transitioning into the role of Church Secretary.  Many of us know Dana already as she has previously been part of the St. James Preschool Staff, and is currently the Bookkeeper for the Weekday Ministries and part-time Receptionist for the church.  We are happy to have Dana moving into a full-time position at St. James.  The transition will take some time as the Weekday Ministries will need to fill their Bookkeeper position.  If you know someone that would be interested in this part-time position, please have them contact the church at (252) 752-6154 or info@stjconnect.org

Collecting Bibles for the Homeless Shelter

The Bible Sunday School Class has been collecting Bibles for Community Crossroads, the homeless shelter. People using the shelter cannot believe that the Bibles are there for them to take as their own. We have so far taken about forty Bibles and now there are only three left for the residents there. If you have any Bibles to donate, please take them to Room 22 or give them to Aaron Sampson. We will be taking Bibles continuously as they are donated.

Quarterly Contribution Statements moving to Email

Our goal is to be good stewards of God’s resources. One way we can do this is by emailing your quarterly contribution statements. You can help us by making sure we have an accurate email address for you. As of April, 2017 all quarterly contribution statements will be emailed. If you prefer to receive a paper statement mailed to you in lieu of an emailed statement, please contact Marianne Leventry at 252-752- 6154 or Marianne@stjconnect.org. For tax purposes, you will always get a paper copy of your year-end statement.

Participation is needed in a research study about sit-to-stand and balance. We are looking for men and women over the age of 65, able to stand unassisted several times, and able to participate in a strength-training program. The primary purpose of the study is to evaluate how lower-limb strength impacts sit-to-stand and balance in individuals over the age of 65.

Participation can include two visits of an hour and a halg each plus three 15-minute visits a week for eight weeks. This will total approximately 45 minutes per week, or 9 hours for completion of study.
If interested, please contact Jenna Pate at the ECU Department of Kinesiology at patej13@students.ecu.edu or 252-737-4616. Or contact Zachary Domire at domirez@ecu.edu.
