Lenten Mission Focus – Community Crossroads Center

There is a special fund-raiser for CCC this Monday night!  Come out and support our Lenten Mission Focus.

Community Crossroads Center presents an evening of fun and medieval entertainment …

Homeless Knights
Monday, April 3rd
6:00 – 8:00 pm
Greenville Country Club

Admission is free and there will be food, entertainment, cash bar, Silent and Live Auctions. Help us slay the homeless issue within our community.

You can help the homeless with a donation of $25. That is what it costs for one night at the Center. Community Crossroads Center is a non-profit agency that provides emergency shelter, food, case management and a place for our homeless citizens to get back up on their feet.

See www.communitycrossroadscenter.org for more information.

The Community Crossroads Center (formerly the Greenville Homeless Shelter) as our Lenten Missional Focus. The need is great for the center as last year alone they provided shelter and food for 560 different people. So let us do as Jesus asks and help feed the hungry and invite in the stranger.

You may bring donations at any time during the season of Lent with an indication that they are for the Lenten Focus or CCC (Community Crossroads Shelter).  Thank you St James!

Flowering of the Cross on Easter Morning

On Easter Sunday, we invite you to be part of the “Flowering of the Easter Cross”, an ancient and meaningful tradition.

As you prepare for Easter worship, pick fresh flowers from your garden or yard and bring them with you to the church.  As you arrive, come to the main entrance in front of The Commons, stand before the large cross and place your flowers upon it.  Eventually the cross will be covered in beautiful flowers in a brilliant array of color, light and lovely fragrance. A symbol of death, darkness, pain and hopelessness is transformed into something beautiful, new and alive in celebration of the Resurrection of Christ.  Together, we can transform the cross and help make this Easter a celebration of new life.

Building Disciples Update

We have another reason to celebrate at St. James! Through your faithful giving and support, we were able to build the new children’s wing, main entrance, and lobby.  And now we have recently paid enough to bring the loan down to only $2.9 million. Thank you for your continued generosity!

Soon we will be starting a campaign to lower this debt even more. Look for the Building Disciples announcements to hear about all the amazing things God is doing at St. James and how you can be a part of its continued success.

Prayer Shawl Ministry

Celebrates Ninth Anniversary

The St James UMC Prayer Shawl Mission is celebrating its Ninth Anniversary.  We have two groups meeting each Monday.  One at 10:30 am and one at 6:30 pm.

During the last nine years they have sent out 1142 prayer shawls to those who need comfort.  They also stitch newborn or preemie layettes for those newborns who do not survive birth.  In the last year, lap robes have been distributed to the Vidant Hospice and to University Nursing Home. Each item is prayed over when it is made.  Periodically all items are blessed during services by the Ministerial Staff.

Prayer Shawl Ministry meets in Room 21 behind Noah’s Ark.  Come join us if you knit or crochet and want to have plenty of fun and fellowship.  If you want to learn to knit or crochet, please join us.  We have wonderful teachers and more fun than you can imagine.  We are always anxious to welcome new members.

Quilting WorkshopThe In-Stitches quilters group sponsored a Quilting Workshop recently in the Fellowship Hall.  It was “SEW” much fun!

The In-Stitches group meets on Wednesday mornings at 10:00 am in Room 21.  All are invited – no sewing experience required!

Easter Donations

On Easter Sunday our bulletins will contain a listing of special donations “in honor of” or “in memory of” loved ones of this congregation. This is a wonderful way to honor the saints that have gone before us as we look forward to the time that we will see them again on that great resurrection day! If you would like to have a loved one listed in the bulletin, please fill out the dedication form (available at the church office and online) and return it to the church office by Sunday, April 9th.

We will not be purchasing Lilies this year to decorate the Sanctuary. Instead, these donations will be used for the Pastor’s Discretionary Fund which assists those in need in our community.
