This Week at

“Follow Jesus … Love Others … Change the World”

This is the most meaningful, most difficult, and yet, most celebratory time of the Christian year!  It has the power to inspire hope in you, bring you peace, and change your life.  Don’t you want to be a part of that?

We are gathering at these times to remember, observe,

and celebrate Jesus!

Morning Communion

During Holy Week, the Pastoral staff at St. James will be offering communion each morning at 7:00 am in the Chapel.  Please join us any morning from Monday, April 10th to Friday, April 14th to celebrate the Holy sacrament together.  Start your day with the Lord.

Maundy Thursday Service
Thursday, April 13th at 7:00 pm in the Christian Life Ministries Center

A thought-provoking service exploring the events on the Thursday evening before Jesus was arrested.  The service will include a discussion of the Passover meal, an optional foot washing, and Holy Communion.

Good Friday Service
Friday, April 14th at 7:00 pm in the Sanctuary

A solemn Tenebrae service where we remember the suffering and death of Christ on the cross.  The Chancel Choir will lead us in hymns as the chancel is covered and stripped of it’s adornments.

Easter Sunrise Service
Sunday, April 16th at 6:30 am on the Sanctuary lawn

Remembering how the women rose before the sun to attend to Jesus’ body in the tomb, we celebrate that the tomb was empty and Jesus was alive!  He is risen!

Easter Communion
April 16th at 6:50 am (or as soon as the Sunrise service ends) in the Sanctuary

A breaking of the Lenten fast with a Eucharist celebration.  The weeping and sorrow is over, there is new hope in the risen Lord.  With the body and the blood of Jesus, what is in our past is washed away and we become Easter people, made new in His mercy!

Fellowship Breakfast
April 16th at 7:00 am (or as soon as the Communion service ends) Fellowship Hall

Fellowship as the redeemed body of Christ with a full breakfast provided by the United Methodist Men.  All are invited.

Flowering of the Cross on Easter Morning

On Easter Sunday, we invite you to be part of the “Flowering of the Easter Cross”, an ancient and meaningful tradition.

As you prepare for Easter worship, pick fresh flowers from your garden or yard and bring them with you to the church.  As you arrive, come to the main entrance in front of The Commons, stand before the large cross and place your flowers upon it.  Eventually the cross will be covered in beautiful flowers in a brilliant array of color, light and lovely fragrance. A symbol of death, darkness, pain and hopelessness is transformed into something beautiful, new and alive in celebration of the Resurrection of Christ.  Together, we can transform the cross and help make this Easter a celebration of new life.

Contribution Statements Coming by Email

For the past year, it has been communicated that we will begin emailing all quarterly contribution statements in 2017. As the first quarter ends, we want to reassure all contributors that your contributions to St. James United Methodist Church will remain confidential. We have developed a privacy policy. No one outside of St. James UMC will have access to your giving record. Likewise, your giving record / contribution statement is seen only by those in the finance office of St. James United Methodist Church.

In the month of April, the first quarter contribution statements will be emailed to the email address listed on St. James UMC database. One statement will be emailed to the preferred email address. If there is not a preferred email address, it will be emailed to the email address of the first person listed on the giving record. When you open the email, you will see an email with a link to the contribution statement rather than a statement or an email with an attached statement. When you receive and open the email, you will need to enter your email address to access the contribution statement.

If you have any questions or prefer to have statements mailed to you via US Mail, please contact Marianne Leventry at 252-752- 6154 or Marianne@stjconnect.org.

Lenten Mission Focus – Community Crossroads Center

The Community Crossroads Center (formerly the Greenville Homeless Shelter) as our Lenten Missional Focus. The need is great for the center as last year alone they provided shelter and food for 560 different people. So let us do as Jesus asks and help feed the hungry and invite in the stranger.

You may bring donations at any time during the season of Lent with an indication that they are for the Lenten Focus or CCC (Community Crossroads Shelter).  Thank you St James!

Announcements

Building Disciples Update

We have a reason to celebrate at St. James!  Through your faithful giving and support, we were able to build the new children’s wing and main entrance and lobby. And now we have recently paid enough to bring the loan down to only $2.9 million. Thank you for your continued generosity!
Soon we will be starting a campaign to lower this debt even more. Look for the Building Disciples announcements to hear about all the amazing things God is doing at St. James and how you can be a part of its continued success.

Easter Donations

On Easter Sunday our bulletins will contain a listing of special donations “in honor of” or “in memory of” loved ones of this congregation. This is a wonderful way to honor the saints that have gone before us as we look forward to the time that we will see them again on that great resurrection day! If you would like to have a loved one listed in the bulletin, please fill out the dedication form (available at the church office and online) and return it to the church office by Sunday, April 9th.

We will not be purchasing Lilies this year to decorate the Sanctuary. Instead, these donations will be used for the Pastor’s Discretionary Fund which assists those in need in our community.
