The National Day of Prayer is Thursday, May 4, 2017. We have a spiritual responsibility to pray – to pray to our Father in Heaven and to pray for each other (1 Timothy 2:1-2). We also have a civic responsibility to join together in prayer for our nation, our cities/towns, our communities, our families, and our homes.

The St. James Prayer Ministry invites you to join us in the chapel on Thursday, May 4, 2017 in prayer and praise of our Lord as a part of our National Day of Prayer celebration.

Are You Ready to Relay?

Come out and join our team at the 2017 Relay for Life on April 28th and 29th at Boyd Lee Park!

Together we can make a difference.

There is still time to support the St. James Relay for Life Team.  Here’s a couple of ways:
– Need a Purple Bow? Bows are available for a $10 minimum donation. Get yours at the church office.
– Luminaria and Torch – Flames of Hope. Honor survivors or loved ones lost to cancer with luminaria and Flames of Hope. Standard white luminaria are $10; Gold star Luminaria are $25; and Torch of Hope is $100. Order yours today at the church office.

Thanks for your continued support of St. James Relay for Life Team!

Have you felt the call to respond to help victims of hurricanes or flooding?

Do you want to prepare yourself for the next emergency situation that might arise in our community?

Sign-up now!

On May 6, St. James United Methodist Church is hosting Early Response Team (ERT) training provided by the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) through the Conference. The training will certify individuals who want to respond to natural disasters in the crucial early days after a disaster.

This training is valuable for any mission team eager to respond in faith and love to our brothers and sisters in Christ who have suffered from a flood, hurricane, tornado, or other natural disaster.

When disaster strikes, the local church usually provides the first response. This basic understanding—that disaster response is local—helps form a foundation for UMCOR’s national training and response. UMCOR equips United Methodists to prepare for, respond to, and recover from disasters, supporting conference and church ministries on disaster response so that they can be the hands and feet of Christ in a hurting world.

Basic ERT Member Training (8 hours) Participants learn the basics of disaster response, including how to stabilize and secure homes safely, and how to work effectively with survivors and others on the response team. This standardized class is required for the basic ERT UMCOR identification badge.

Cost for the training is $30. The cost covers the training, lunch, and snacks. For scholarship assistance, please contact the church office.

Sign up for the class at nccumvim.org/erttraining

Save the Date!

Saturday, June 24th at 5:00 pm
Cook-out and reception to honor

Johnny and Susan Branch

for their years of ministry with St. James and to wish them well in retirement.

Dear Church Family,

As we celebrate with Johnny his 42 years of active ministry and approaching retirement, I would like to ask you to prayerfully consider making a love offering so that we can provide Johnny with a small token of appreciation for all he has done for St. James and God’s kingdom through the years. If you feel led, please designate this as “Johnny Love Offering” on the memo line of your check and place in the offering plate, or drop it by the church office by the end of May. Thank you for your consideration.

May God Bless.

Tim Barrett, SPRC Chair

Building Disciples Update

We have a reason to celebrate at St. James!  Through your faithful giving and support, we were able to build the new children’s wing and main entrance and lobby. And now we have recently paid enough to bring the loan down to only $2.9 million. Thank you for your continued generosity!
Soon we will be starting a campaign to lower this debt even more. Look for the Building Disciples announcements to hear about all the amazing things God is doing at St. James and how you can be a part of its continued success.
