This Week at

“Follow Jesus … Love Others … Change the World”

This week St. James has been invaded by over a hundred young Superheroes!

They were busy learning all the characteristics of God’s Heroes – that God’s Heroes have Heart, Courage, Wisdom, Hope, and Power !  And they were having a little bit of fun, too!

“Do Good.  Seek Peace.  And Go After It!”

Did you know that St. James had a facebook group?

The UMW needs your help to provide 300 school kits to Wahl Coates School by August 15th! The bags for kits, along with the shopping list will be provided by the UMW and are available at the church. Collection sites for the school supplies are the Narthex, the stage in the Fellowship Hall, CLMC Lobby and under the UMW Bulletin Board.

Perhaps you are part of a Small Group, Sunday School Class, or the Youth Group and would like to take this on as a service opportunity. Money donations will be accepted and the UMW will do the shopping! For more information, contact Tammy Stephenson (stephensont@ecu.edu) or Lynn Gammell (gammelll@ecu.edu).

Thank You!

Dear St. James Church Family,

What can we say to adequately express the gratitude we feel for your love, kindness, and support over the last ten years? You are an amazing congregation – always ready to support the mission and ministry of Jesus Christ. You always go the second mile to make sure that those that need help will have the care they need.

The Retirement Dinner was outstanding. Thank you to everyone that had a part in it. The table decorations were so pretty and the flower arrangements were lovely. The food was delicious. All of the “Roasters” were funny – even if Johnny had to wear a Carolina hat! The photo album and the “Duke blue” prayer shawl are priceless. Thank you to all of you that took time to attend the event and all of you that were there in spirit. Thank you for the many cards, well wishes, and the very generous love offering that you provided for us. We have not decided how we will use it, but we will put it to good use!

You are blessed with a fine ministry team of Ben Alexander, Mark Woods, and Joyce Day. They will lead you into the future. Expect greatness!

With our love,
Johnny and Susan

P.S. If anyone needs some Texas Pete, we’ll be glad to share!

Your influence matters.
Everyone has influence and the ability to create positive change. When you improve your leadership, you impact lives, churches, businesses, governments, schools, and families. Would you be willing to join us for two days of world-class leadership training? The opportunity is ours right here in Greenville.

Jarvis Memorial UMC and Practicon are co-sponsoring a live simulcast of the 2017 Global Leadership Summit on August 10-11 to be held at Jarvis Memorial UMC. We will hear from an amazing list of speakers sharing their wisdom and success while meeting with other leaders and church members from the greater-Greenville area.

Because St. James is partnering with Jarvis & Practicon, Inc. to help bring this event to Greenville, we are able to offer a reduced rate of $129/person for the 2-day event. To register, go to http://stjconnect.org/global-leadership-summit-2017/ and use the priority code SPC17 to receive the discounted price.

Vidant Home Health and Hospice is currently recruiting volunteers in the Pitt County area. We have an increasing need for compassionate individuals whom are willing to provide support to patients and their families at the end of life. As a volunteer, you will be able to give back to the community, in an emotionally rewarding way.

Opportunities include:

  • Direct Support: Offering Companionship: Friendly visits to provide some special attention, a listening ear, and a comforting presence.
  • Respite Care: Respite care is an opportunity for the caregiver to have a break and still be assured their loved one is safe.
  • Indirect Support: Providing support in our offices or at the Service League of Greenville Inpatient Hospice.

Training is provided. To schedule a presentation about our volunteer program or to sign up as a Vidant Home Health and Hospice Volunteer please contact Angelina Brittle at 252-847-1236 or email Angelina.brittle@vidanthealth.com.
