“Follow Jesus … Love Others … Change the World”

Thank you!  Thank you!  Thank you!

We are close to our goal of collecting 300 school supply kits for Wahl-Coates school!

Remember the school supplies must be brought to the church by August 15th.

Now we need your help delivering the packets to the school!

On Sunday, August 20th, following the 11:00 & 11:11 services, we are taking all of the kits down the street to Wahl-Coates school. Drive your pick-up or family van to church that morning and help deliver the kits to the school. Or, be part of the loading or un-loading teams.

What a blessing these school supplies will be for the children and teachers at Wahl-Coates school!

For more information, contact Molly Carpenter (752-6154 or Molly@stjconnect.org).

Sunday mornings offer a wonderful opportunity for folks of all ages to spend time in Bible study and discussion through our Living Water classes. Our adult classes offer a wide range of topics from books of the Bible to how to live out your Christian faith each day. Two of our groups are starting new studies.

Life Enrichment, which meets in Room 310, will be studying God Unbound, a book about Paul’s letter to the Galatians, written by Elaine Heath from Duke University. She shows us how Paul’s teachings can help us today to boldly follow the Holy Spirit’s leadership beyond buildings and programs to join what Jesus is doing in the world.

The Seekers meet in Room 311 and are starting Max Lucado’s book, Outlive Your Live. God has a purpose for us all and that purpose is to fulfill God’s mission of active love in the world. Our lives are meant to reflect the redeeming power of God’s love as we feed the hungry, clothe the naked, and visit the lonely. If you are looking for a way to bring more meaning to your life, you won’t want to miss this study.

The Women On the Way (WOW) group invites the ladies of St. James to join them for their fall book study, “A Perfect Mess” by Lisa Harper. Through this liberating look at how God adores and transforms imperfect people, Bible teacher Lisa Harper weaves poignant stories of her own personal foibles with a fresh take on selected Psalms to reveal a loving Father who remains your greatest champion even when you don’t feel anywhere close to holy.  Come join us! Sundays at 10:00 am. Room 306.

The Story Living Water Sunday school class will begin a new study on August 13. We will be reading and discussing Adam Hamilton’s book, Half-Truths.  Together we will explore popular sayings that miss the Christian point. These phrases may sound Christian and you may think they are even in the Bible, but they actually distort the truth about Jesus’ teachings and other aspects of Scripture. Join us in Room 21 at 9:55 a.m. on Sunday mornings to discover the difference between our half-truths and Jesus’ Truth.

And introducing a new class for young adults!

Beginning Sunday, September 10, we will be starting a new Living Water class for adults ages 18-27 (or thereabouts!). This class will meet in Room 307, 9:50-10:45 a.m., and will be led by Taylor and Dustin Dougherty. We plan to begin with a social gathering on 9/10 where we can discuss ideas and hopes for the future of the group.
For more information, contact Taylor Dougherty at Taylor@stjconnect.org.

Vidant Home Health and Hospice is currently recruiting volunteers in the Pitt County area. We have an increasing need for compassionate individuals whom are willing to provide support to patients and their families at the end of life. As a volunteer, you will be able to give back to the community, in an emotionally rewarding way.

Opportunities include:

  • Direct Support: Offering Companionship: Friendly visits to provide some special attention, a listening ear, and a comforting presence.
  • Respite Care: Respite care is an opportunity for the caregiver to have a break and still be assured their loved one is safe.
  • Indirect Support: Providing support in our offices or at the Service League of Greenville Inpatient Hospice.

Training is provided. To schedule a presentation about our volunteer program or to sign up as a Vidant Home Health and Hospice Volunteer please contact Angelina Brittle at 252-847-1236 or email Angelina.brittle@vidanthealth.com.
