“Follow Jesus … Love Others … Change the World”

“Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good;
His love endures forever.” ~ Psalm 118:1

God has indeed blessed us in so many ways! And we want to take a moment in our busy lives, to say “Thank you”. Join us as we praise our great God as ONE Church!

The service will be in the Christian Life Ministries Center this year, with music by our choir AND our praise team. There will be something in the service for all ages and we will share a light Fellowship meal with our Youth following the service.

In order for us to provide enough food for everyone, we ask that you RSVP. Let us know how many in your family will be there. You can RSVP by contacting the church office (252-752-6154 or Info@stjconnect.org) or online by clicking here.

New Studies During Advent

The season of Advent is a time of preparation. We need to prepare our hearts and minds for the coming of Christ. During Advent we remember the first coming of Christ as an infant—God putting on human flesh and becoming fully dependent upon the care and nurture of human parents. We also look forward to Christ’s second coming when the kingdom of God will be fulfilled on earth as it is in heaven. Take time this Advent to let God speak to you.

St. James is offering three different Advent studies. Sign up online or by calling the church office (www.stjconnect.org or 252-752-6154). Childcare will be available if requested at least one week ahead.

Wednesday Women group will be studying The Purpose of Christmas by Rick Warren. Wednesdays 6:15-7:45 p.m., November 29-December 13. Led by Edie Snider.

Both men and women are welcome to join Because of Bethlehem by Max Lucado. Wednesdays 6:00-7:00 p.m., November 29-December 20. Led by Rhonda Asher.

The New Beginnings Living Water class will be studying Advent Conspiracy: Can Christmas Still Change the World? By Rick McKinley and Chris Seay. Sundays 9:50-10:45 a.m. beginning November 26. This class is led by Sarah Jane and Carney Taylor and meets in Room 23.

Come “Hang the Green” for Christmas

This year, we are doing things a little differently to prepare for Advent and Christmas.  We are kicking it all off with a Hanging of the Green Celebration Party!  On Saturday, December 2nd, we invite the entire St. James community to join in the fun and fellowship as we sing carols, pray over the decorations, decorate the trees and worship spaces, and conclude with a family meal of hot soup and sandwiches.

We plan to start at 4:00 pm in the Christian Life Ministries Center, move to the Sanctuary, and then end in the Fellowship Hall between 5:00 & 6:00 pm.  There will be things to do for all ages!  The holidays often center around our families, and what better way to prepare for the season than with your church family!

Santa’s First Stop

A Visit With Santa

Parents!

Save the date for “Santa’s First Stop”!

On Sunday, December 3rd from 2:00-5:00 pm, plan a visit with our “Santa” (Ed Daughtry) at St. James.

Come and enjoy cookies & milk, make a craft, and hear the Christmas Story. A photographer will also be present to mark your memory!

We encourage all to register for one of the hours to help avoid a long line for Santa. You can register online by clicking the button below or by calling the church office (252-752-6154 or Info@stjconnect.org).

2018 Advent Devotional Guides

are being prepared

Advent is a season of preparation – preparing our homes with Christmas decorations, preparing gifts for our loved ones, and preparing our hearts for the coming of the Christ child. A wonderful way to prepare our hearts is to take a moment each day for a time of devotion and prayer.

The Devotional Guides will be available beginning Sunday, December 3rd, for you to pick up at the church. We are also offering the opportunity to again receive the Advent devotions via email. This new set of daily devotionals are written by your fellow members of St. James UMC and can be sent to your email inbox for the season of Advent & Christmas (December 3rd – January 13th)

To receive the emails, click on the register button below and fill out the form. Then on December 3rd, you will begin to receive your daily emails.

Family Movie Night

On Friday, December 1st, the St. James’ Relay for Life team will sponsor a Family Movie Night.  Join us at 6:15 pm for a special presentation of “Polar Express”.

There will be hot dogs, popcorn, and hot cocoa ($1/each) and every child will receive a silver bell!  There is a suggested donation of $5 per person / $15 for family of 4 / or $20 for family of 4 or more.   Contact Linnley Cox (252-327-8675  or linncoxot@yahoo.com) or Lora Joyner (252-531-7481 or lora.joyner@suddenlink.net) for more information!  Wear your pajamas!

Potted poinsettias are used to decorate our church throughout Advent. These poinsettias, $10 each, may be purchased in honor or memory of family, friends, and other loved ones. Please fill out the form below and return it and your payment to the church office by Monday, December 3rd. You may also make a contribution to the Pastor’s Discretionary Fund, given in honor or memory of a loved one. These funds assist people in need throughout the year.
(Forms are available in the church office. Poinsettias may be picked up after the Lovefeast service on December 17th.)
