“Follow Jesus … Love Others … Change the World”

Last Sunday, April 23rd, our Staff-Parish Relations Committee announced two new staff members that will begin in ministry with St. James this summer.

We welcome Abby Gillette as our new Director of Youth Ministries!

Abby and her husband Eric will be moving from Abilene, TX to join us in early June. We look forward to welcoming them into the St. James community and we are excited about the inspiration, ideas, and passion that they bring! Welcome Abby and Eric!

On July 1st, we will welcome our new Senior Pastor, Rev. Ben Alexander!  Ben will be coming from Pittsboro United Methodist Church where he has been serving since 2011. He and his wife Sarah have a six-year-old son, Thomas, a two-year-old daughter, Hope, and their first “child,” Donnie the dog! Ben served as an Associate Pastor at Front Street UMC in Burlington. A native of Chapel Hill, Ben is a graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill (BA in History in 1999), and Duke Divinity School (MDIV in 2008). In case you are wondering about his loyalties, his Duke Diploma is framed in a lovely shade of Carolina blue. He loves reading, hiking, coffee, travel, and practical jokes. We look forward to welcoming the entire Alexander family in July!

Attention 5th Graders —

     Come Experience The Gathering

Have you ever wondered what went on Sunday nights at the Youth Gathering?  Will you be ready to join us in the fall?   Come and see for yourself!

All  5th Graders are invited to attend youth group at The Gathering on Sunday, April 30.  The Gathering is for students in grades 6 -12 and meets every Sunday from 6-8 pm in the CLMC for fellowship, music, games, dinner, and small group time.  Don’t miss this sneak peak opportunity – come see what you have to look forward to in the fall!

Camp Connect

Camp Connect for Middle Schoolers will be Sunday, June 18th through Thursday, June 22nd.  Mark your calendars now!

Click here to register or for more information.

All the women of St. James are invited to join the United Methodist Women for UMW’s annual May Dinner on Monday, May 8th at 6:30 in the Fellowship Hall.
Our program will be a Hymn Sing under the direction of Frances Cain. Please come bring covered dish to share and enjoy fun and fellowship with the women of St. James. Child care will be available.

The National Day of Prayer is Thursday, May 4, 2017. We have a spiritual responsibility to pray – to pray to our Father in Heaven and to pray for each other (1 Timothy 2:1-2). We also have a civic responsibility to join together in prayer for our nation, our cities/towns, our communities, our families, and our homes.

The St. James Prayer Ministry invites you to join us in the chapel on Thursday, May 4, 2017 in prayer and praise of our Lord as a part of our National Day of Prayer celebration.

The special Mother’s Day Offering supports our Benevolent Care Annual Fund and provides financial and personal resources for residents who can no longer fully pay their way. In many cases these residents have no other means of support and often no family. It takes $100 to subsidize one day of care for benevolent residents.

There will be special envelopes available at the church for this offering. Or you may indicate “Mother’s Day Offering” on your check memo line. By supporting this fund you can make a difference in the lives of these residents.

Save the Date!

Saturday, June 24th at 5:00 pm
Cook-out and reception to honor

Johnny and Susan Branch

for their years of ministry with St. James and to wish them well in retirement.

Dear Church Family,

As we celebrate with Johnny his 42 years of active ministry and approaching retirement, I would like to ask you to prayerfully consider making a love offering so that we can provide Johnny with a small token of appreciation for all he has done for St. James and God’s kingdom through the years. If you feel led, please designate this as “Johnny Love Offering” on the memo line of your check and place in the offering plate, or drop it by the church office by the end of May. Thank you for your consideration.

May God Bless.

Tim Barrett, SPRC Chair

Building Disciples Update

We have a reason to celebrate at St. James!  Through your faithful giving and support, we were able to build the new children’s wing and main entrance and lobby. And now we have recently paid enough to bring the loan down to only $2.9 million. Thank you for your continued generosity!
Soon we will be starting a campaign to lower this debt even more. Look for the Building Disciples announcements to hear about all the amazing things God is doing at St. James and how you can be a part of its continued success.
