Sammie Kunz

Kunz-S-picSammie Kunz comes to St. James from her home in Commack, Long Island, New York, where it is very different from the beautiful Greenville, North Carolina. Living on the Island gave her the opportunities to live on the water and enjoy the beauties of nature, but also gave her the option to enjoy the more metropolitan side of New York by being a few train stops away from Manhattan.

Sammie is interested in music because it is her life’s passion, and she has been singing and performing on stage since the age of seven. At the age of eleven, she began formal singing lessons. She successfully auditioned twice for choral studies at the New York State Summer School of the Arts (NYSSSA). Sammie sings alto in the Chancel Choir and plays clarinet, but her greatest accomplishment was being a member of the American Music Abroad choir and getting the opportunity to perform all over Europe.

This year, Sammie will be preparing for her junior recital, performances with the ECU Chamber Singers, and performances in the ECU New Music Festival. She will graduate May 2017 with a Bachelor’s of Music in Vocal Performance. After graduation, Sammie plans to continue her musical educating by earning her Master’s degree.   Her ideal job would be to work at a university and have her own voice studio to further the musical education of her students.

Sammie’s favorite piece of music is Vincent Persichetti’s “The Grass.” We at St. James are sure that one of our new favorites will include a performance from you! Welcome!
