Spring Fling Highlight –

Barbecue Chicken Lunch!

1,900.  27.  5 a.m.  11 a.m.  $8.00.  ½.  1 p.m.  20.  4/27/19.

Those are critical numbers to keep in mind for the Spring Fling Barbecue Chicken Lunch on April 27.

For the 27th year, the United Methodist Men will be cooking and serving a barbecue chicken lunch as a part of the St. James United Methodist Church Spring Fling.   We plan to have about 20 cookers in place to cook 1,900 chicken halves.   For only $8.00 per plate, customers will receive a half-chicken smothered in Tom Barrington’s vintage barbecue sauce, sides of seasoned cooked red potatoes, seasoned green beans, and a dinner roll.  Plates will be available for pick up beginning at 11:00 a.m., and will continue until 1:00 p.m. on Spring Fling, April 27.  Distribution will be by drive-thru or walk up.  You may have received tickets in the mail to sell or buy plates in advance.  Tickets are also available at the church.  Plates will also be on sale at the serving site.  Ticket holders are encouraged to pick up their plates by noon to guarantee a plate.  After noon, the plates will be sold on a first come, first served basis. Volunteers are encouraged to register online (stjconnect.org/spring-fling; click on “I Want To Volunteer!”) to help with either the cooking or serving.  Cooking will begin at 5:00 a.m. in the field behind the parking lot.  The serving group will begin preparations at 10:00 a.m.  Plates will be distributed under a tent set up along Hilltop Street off of Fifth Street.

The net proceeds from the BBQ chicken dinner sale is one of the largest contributors to Spring Fling each year.  Help us help our community partners by cooking, buying, selling, or serving a chicken dinner at this year’s Spring Fling!
