Steven J. Vinloas

Vinolas-S-picSteven J. Vinolas is a relative newcomer to St. James, but not to the music he loves. Coming from upstate NY on a recommendation from a pre-college vocal instructor, he now enjoys his choral endeavors with ECU and with our Chancel Choir and hand bells. Steven is pleased with SJUMC because we remind him of his hometown church where principles are carried out. He also enjoys singing with people who are serious about making music to the best of their abilities.

His home in Middletown (one hour and a half from Manhattan) is a typical suburban town known for the “world’s best” pizza, cider, donuts, and apples. (Let’s take a van trip!) Steven’s greatest influence is his mother about whom he writes, “She taught me so much about how to be a good human being. She is always there for me and is the most supportive and caring person I know. Her beauty touches everyone she meets. She is full of life and radiance. I only wish to be half as compassionate, intelligent and driven.”

Steven was the President of his choir program in high school, a member of the New York State Summer School Choral studies, and a participant in both the All-State and All-Eastern festivals. He is most proud of directing the Minisink Valley Middle School Drama Club’s production of Seussical (a musical amalgamation of Seuss books); the great love those students maintain for music was a catalyst for his current decisions at ECU.

Steven will graduate in the spring of 2017 with a degree in Music Education: Vocal/General Concentration, with a minor in Hispanic Studies. He is also a member of the ECU Honors College. After graduation, he hopes to return to New England and teach middle or high school choir. His desire is to transfer the passion he has for music to his students.    His life goals are to have a family, well-paying job, nice house, and to sing part-time in a semi-professional choir. Steven wishes to remain the most wholesome version of himself and to remember his many blessings each and every day.

While here at ECU, he is a baritone in the elite Chamber Singers, who will represent the USA in an April 2015 international competition. He is also cast as Jonathon Jeremiah Peachum in ECU’s spring opera production of The Beggar’s Opera. He serves as the Treasurer of ECU Students National Association of Teachers of Singing, and on the ECU Student Forum for Musical Organizations as a representative. With all of those responsibilities, SJUMC is so blessed that Steven has chosen to worship and sing with us!
