Player Evaluations Next Week
Registration Ends October 26
Another season of Upward Basketball and Cheerleading is upon us. Here are the age groups for both activities:
- Basketball (boys): K5 – 7th grade
- Basketball (girls): K5 – 6th grade
- Cheerleading (girls): K4 – 6th grade
Both practices and games are held here at St. James UMC and at Jarvis Memorial UMC.
Player Evaluations for Basketball
Player evaluations, which enable program leaders to assign basketball players to teams, run October 23, 24, and 26 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Jarvis. Children and parents must attend only one session. Each child will have a skills assessment, height measurement, and confirmation of uniform size.

If you have not registered and paid your registration fee online or registered in person at Jarvis, you can come to the Evaluation Night and register your child, pay the registration fee by personal check or money order made payable to Jarvis-Upward, and get an overview of the season.
Registration for Basketball and Cheerleading
The early registration deadline has passed. Registration for $105 per child continues. There are discounts available for multiple registrations from one family. All registration ends on October 26, when you can register your child in person during player evaluations.

Practices
1st practice week – November 27, 28, or 30
2nd practice week – Week of December 4
3rd practice week – Week of December 11
Practices are one hour per week, from November 27 until February 26. No practices will be held from December 18, 2023 through January 1, 2024.
Scrimmage games are tentatively scheduled for January 2, 4, and 6.
Games
All games are played in the Jarvis Gym and in the CLMC here at St. James UMC. Games begin on January 13 and continue for eight weeks. The final game day is March 2.
Games at St. James are for girls teams with players in grades four and five and boys teams with players in grades five through seven. Girls teams for ages K5 through grade three and boys teams for ages K5 through grade four play at Jarvis.
Game commissioners at St. James are Russell Eaves and Ed Mann.
