Tommy Shaw

Interim Director of Communications

I have been working for St. James since March of 2018. I started out as the receptionist, which I LOVED. I get to greet all of the wonderful children every morning! There is nothing more heartwarming then seeing their faces every morning as they walk into our doors. In March of 2020, I started as Interim Director of Communications. This is a position that I am extremely excited to fill because I am a creative person by nature.

I attended Halifax Community College and studied Commercial Art and Advertising Design, and Interior Design; at North Carolina Wesleyan College, I studied Theatre with a concentration in technical theatre; at East Carolina University, I studied Interior Design (GO PIRATES!). I enjoy community theatre. I worked with the outdoor drama in Halifax County, “First For Freedom” for 39 years. For 35 of those years, I played the devilish antagonist. I must admit I loved playing my “alter” ego… You can see my work as an Interior Designer around the campus is the areas we have updated over the past several years.

I am a lifelong Methodist. I started out as a Methodist at Shiloh UMC in Gaston, NC in 1971, and then transferred my membership the Halifax UMC in 1992. I became a member here at St. James in 2015.

I have five nieces and nephews and one goddaughter (that I lovingly refer to as Princess). I also have one brother and one sister.
